F. Douglass 2

A human right is a right that in a perfect world would not be denied to anyone. These rights include many things we take for granted, like freedom of speech and equal representation under law. Almost none of these rights were given to slaves. As they were not given humanity, there was little reason for America to attempt to do anything else. While there was a strong abolitionist movement, there was also rampant racism. Specifically, slaves were, well slaves. They were considered property, and therefore were unable to have simple privileges like freedom of speech or expression.

  1. I really liked how you talked about different human rights than most people are focusing on. Freedom of speech and expression were still highly talked about in our discussions, but not as much as some other rights.

  5. This was a well written, thought provoking, and interesting post. However, I do not see how this correlates with education.

  6. I agree with Jadyn. I think this was a very good, informative post. However, I do not see very much about how education relates to human freedom. Great post though!

  7. This is a proactive post about the thoughts of slavery in the United States pre-civil war. But, correlating with Sydney and Jadyn, I don't really see how it has to do with education and freedom. Besides that, well done.

  8. I like how you talked about the different rights that slaves weren't given, but I don't think it nesscarily correlates with the prompt. Other than that your post was very informative.
